Awarded with the main civil works contract, Sembawang E&C was responsible for the construction of the new facilities for liquid treatment, anaerobic digestion, and solids handling.
One of the challenges of the project was the construction of the Digester Complex comprises of 4 sludge and gas storage tanks with a capacity of 6000m3 each, 8 egg shaped digesters with a capacity of 5000m3 each, 9 dewatering and 4 thickening sludge centrifuges. The thickened sludge would be brought there for decomposition. The sludge gas which contain 60 to 70% methane would be stored and sent to power building to generate power.
The sludge storage tanks were constructed using slipform and the egg-shaped digesters were constructed with jump form construction method. The construction of the egg-shaped digesters was on the site of existing sludge lagoons.
Careful programming was required to keep the current plant operational without disruption and Sembawang E&C had made all necessary provisions for to ensure clients expectations were met.
Design and construction of 8 egg-shaped anaerobic digestors, 4 sludge storage tanks, power and headworks building, tunnels, walkways and other ancillary structures.
